October, Cybersecurity Month: Why is it important for organizations?
The great digital transformation that has been occurring for several years forces companies to increasingly review their different strategies and take active measures to avoid problems related to the use of technology. In this way, cybersecurity is positioned as one of the main topics that both organizations and people must take into consideration for the future.
October is Cybersecurity awareness month and a good opportunity to review the main opportunities, challenges and trends occurring in this changing sector. In a world where the challenges linked to this topic continually grow and where the level of digitalization continues to increase, putting this topic at the center of the discussion is not a waste of time.
The incidence of attacks, as well as the economic inconveniences they generate, are increasing in magnitude. That is why data protection, mitigating related risks and training various work teams on the subject have become necessities for any type of company.
This campaign with the aim of increasing visibility on this problem originates in 2004, when the United States Congress declared October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Since then, different countries and organizations have joined this action.
To date, more than 60% of companies have suffered at least one cyber attack since they began their activity. In turn, a large number of these problems originate from human error and could even have been avoided through the use of appropriate safety and security practices.
Cybersecurity is an issue that concerns everyone, both users and large companies, and that due to constant technological change can be difficult to combat. The strategies used by attackers and cybercriminals evolve all the time, so the role that organizations play as promoters of this issue is essential.
Through the Cyber & Risk Advisory team, at BDO we accompany organizations in the protection of their business, the mitigation of risks linked to information technology and data protection.
With the aim of advancing this work and continuing to promote development, awareness and training around cybersecurity and its main variants, during October we will share specialized content and useful information material for both users and organizations.
