Santiago Metro to Airport

According to reports in recent weeks, the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) is developing studies aimed at establishing a connection between the Santiago Metro and Arturo Merino Benítez Airport (AMB). This initiative could be officially announced during the next public account of President Gabriel Boric, scheduled for 1 June.

The new route would correspond to an extension of Line 7, from the future Huelén station, located in the Cerro Navia district, to the airport. This extension, which includes between 6 and 7 additional kilometres, will undoubtedly boost the development of new real estate projects both along the new section and along the line as a whole. In particular, in the western part of Santiago, new shops, housing, hotels and services are expected to be built in the vicinity of the planned stations.

It is worth noting the boom in mixed-use mega-projects in the vicinity of Metro stations, some of which even consider direct connections to the metro network. A significant increase in this type of development is projected, which are intended for rent, as they represent an innovative solution for urban growth, as well as an attractive investment alternative for real estate developers.

This transformation will directly impact communes such as Renca, Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal, Santiago, Recoleta, Providencia, Las Condes and Vitacura, all of which are integrated into the route of the new Line 7.

In this context, it is essential to promote effective coordination between the MOP and the different levels of government, both regional and communal, in order to articulate public policies that promote the harmonious development of the new line and its stations with the urban environment. This collaboration will be key to encourage the arrival of new projects, which involve an estimated investment of at least US$500 million for each mixed-use development being planned in Greater Santiago.
