It stems from Law No. 21,561 (the 40-Hour Workweek Law), published on April 26, 2023, which introduced a structural change to the Labor Code, setting a maximum standard workweek of 40 hours as its ultimate goal.

 

The reduction in working hours will not take effect immediately, but will be implemented in phases:

• Starting April 26, 2024: Reduction from 45 to 44 hours per week.

• Starting April 26, 2026: Reduction from 44 to 42 hours per week.

• Starting April 26, 2028: Final reduction to 40 hours per week.
